Encryption is a fundamental right, I think people should have the option to choose it if they want it. I don't really have a strong stance on it, I think it is useful to have to prevent hacks, but I think the government should at least provide the option for encryption. Overall encryption is a good thing, but I guess under certain circumstances, it would be okay for the government to access my device. Of course this would upset certain people, but I think if the circumstances are right, it is okay for my phone or data to be collected much like how the police department gets a lock smith if they have a search warrant for a house and need to get in.
I honestly don't really care for encryption as far as the government is concerned. I got nothing to hide so if they have been collecting my data and diagnostics, I know that I'm not doing any wrong or illegal or even suspicious. If there is something suspicious, I know that I can explain what it is and why it is there. I care about encryption a far the nation is concerned. So long as my stuff is protected from other nationalities I am okay. That is so long as other countries or people are not hacking my device and tampering with the software and/or hardware of my device with the intent to harm or disable it, i am okay with it. The topic of encryption does not affect any of my views really, politically it bears no burden, financially it doesn't, socially it doesn't, or I just have such a neutral stance on it that it doesn't affect my views. It should probably affect my views on certain things, or it should matter to me as much as it matters to some of my peers, but because I do not see it as an immediate priority to me and what I am trying to do, it does not bother me at all. It should probably matter to me because I am working in a CS/CSE field and I want to make sure that all my data is protected and that nothing of mine is stolen or exploited. But to me, if it is my personal life, I do not see the need to encrypt my data. My personal life is my personal life and depending on the data being collected, it could come in handy later if I ever need to prove an alibi(which I hope to never have to do). Also my personal life is nothing threatening to anyone or anything.
I think that national security will win, at least for the time being. Seeing the threats that are confronting the US right now with the recent terrorist attacks, outbreaks of violence, and hacks of popular websites like Spotify etc. personal privacy may have to take a seat on the sideline until the world powers come off edge. Until we are able to coexist in at least mild waters where tensions aren't as high as they are in the world right now, personal privacy will take a higher precedence. I have resigned myself to whatever the future holds in store, mainly because I do not have any control over what will happen and what factors will affect the decisions made in the future. I think that fighting it will only make things more difficult for everyone involved only because depending on how the conflict or opposition is resolved, it may bring about more drastic or strict rules and guidelines that are further limiting than whatever rules were initially put into place.
